What is the Women's Walk?

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The mission of the University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is to provide programs that are recognized nationally for academic and athletic excellence, representing our University and the Kearney community with dignity and honor.

To be successful, we need partnerships with people like you. Therefore, we want to offer individuals and companies opportunities to be involved with our programs through effective marketing activities that can benefit your company, your employees and customers.

The 1st Annual Loper Women’s Walk presented by Viaero Wireless is a great opportunity for your organization to support our women athletes and receive the marketing benefits resulting from the Walk’s promotional activities. Viaero Wireless is our signature sponsor ($20,000) and encourages its fellow business colleagues to join them in support of UNK Women’s Athletics.

The purpose of the Walk is to be the primary fundraiser for scholarships of UNK Women Athletes. Funds to support athletics are limited and the cost of tuition, travel, equipment and supplies continue to rise. The dollars raised allow UNK to continue to offer scholarships and ensure young women an avenue to higher education experiences.

By raising new funds for women’s athletics through the Walk we are able to strengthen what we do for men’s athletics because we do not have to take money from the men’s programs to enhance the women’s programs. The Walk will take place September 13, 2008 at UNK. It is a 30 minute walk around campus with nearly 700 participants gaining pledges from family and friends to show their support for the event.

We hope you will sincerely review the levels of sponsorship listed on the enclosed information sheet, and allow us to visit with you further about the possibilities for your company to help support educational opportunities for young women in our own Kearney community.
